Club career

After playing for two other youth clubs, Pérez finished his formation with Tacuary, where he made his top division debuts in 2007.[1] Subsequently, he was signed by fellow league side Club Libertad, appearing rarely for the Asunción club due to a serious right knee injury.[2]

On 30 July 2009, Villarreal CF from Spain bought Pérez, who signed a five-year contract.[3] He spent two full seasons with the reserves in Segunda División, starting in several of the matches he appeared in.

Pérez was definitely promoted to the Valencians' main squad for the 2011–12 season. He made his official debut on 27 September, in the UEFA Champions League group stage game against S.S.C. Napoli, replacing Jonathan de Guzmán in the dying minutes of a 0–2 away loss.[4] Again from the bench, on 1 October, he made his first La Liga appearance: from a corner kick, in the 84th minute, he equalized it 2–2 for the hosts against Real Zaragoza.[5]

International career

Pérez was one of the best players for the Paraguay national under-20 football team at the 2009 South American Youth Championship, helping the national team finish in second place by scoring five goals in seven games, and ultimately being considered one of the best players in the tournament held in Venezuela.[6]

He made his debut for the full side the following year, aged 21, and was selected to the 2011 Copa América in Argentina.
